Canesten Cream 1%

Canesten Cream 1% provides soothing relief from the irritation caused by fungal infections of the skin. This soothing, calming anti-fungal cream can be applied directly to the skin to help soothe the symptoms including sweat rash, jock itch, nappy rash, ringworm or thrush affecting the outside of the vagina (vulva and labia) or the end of the penis.

Canesten Cream 1% contains the active ingredient clotrimazole, which is an antifungal medicine used to treat fungi and yeast infections.

Canesten anti-fungal cream should be applied to the affected area(s) of skin thinly two to three times daily and rubbed in gently. Treatment should be continued for at least one month for dermatophyte infections and at least two weeks for candidal infections.

What is it used for?

Skin infections caused by yeasts (eg Candida), dermatophytes (eg Trichophyton), moulds and other fungi, such as the following:

• Athlete's foot (tinea pedis).
• Fungal infection of the groin, ie jock itch (tinea cruris).
• Ringworm (tinea corporis).
• Fungal nappy rash caused by infection
• Sweat rash caused by infection
• Relieving the external symptoms (candidal vulvitis) of vaginal thrush (candidal vaginitis).
• Inflammation of the penis and/or foreskin (candidal balanitis) caused by infection with Candida albicans (also known as thrush).

How to use Canesten Cream 1%:

Wash your hand before and after applying the cream. Apply the cream thinly to affected areas 2 or 3 times a day and rub in gently. Generally a minimum of 2 weeks treatment is necessary for thrush although up to 4 weeks maybe necessary for other conditions.

Canesten Cream 1% contains:

Clotrimazole 500mg (1% w/w). It also contains benzyl alcohol, polysorbate 60, sorbitan stearate, cetyl palmitate, cetostearyl alcohol, octydodecanol and purified water.

Potential side effects of using Canesten Cream 1%:

• Irritation in area of use
• Burning sensation

Caution when using Canesten Cream 1%:

If symptoms persist see your doctor. Do not use if you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast feeding. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any medicine other than the contraceptive pill and if you are aged under 16 or over 60.
